CTO has designed the cavitation tunnel for Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in Turkey – with the participation of ITU in hydrodynamic design studies and CFD analyses. Based on basic engineering calculations and subsequent CFD and FEM computations CTO’s developed the detailed design documentation of the tunnel for Turkish manufacturer Gurdesan.
Additionally the scope of the project included author’s supervision over the tunnel manufacture, as well as conduction of the facility acceptance tests. CTO is also a supplier of the tunnel control system.
The tunnel opening ceremony was held at the ITU Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering on December 17, 2021. The ITU Cavitation Tunnel is recognized as the 7th tunnel in the world with respect to the mass flux in the test section.
