The first user of the tunnel was a pigeon named Colin.
A low-velocity open wind tunnel for studying the flight of live birds has been commissioned at the Swansea University research laboratory. The construction of the tunnel (blower type) allows for generating an air stream (5 ÷ 28 m/s) in the test section under ambient pressure conditions. The measuring space, made entirely of non-magnetic materials, allows observation and unlimited access to the tested bird.
The construction of the tunnel enables the test section to be tilted axially in the range from -1° to + 8° to simulate the climb and glide of the test bird.
